1.18. Automatic transmission

GENERAL INFORMATION

After start of the engine before inclusion of one of steps to press a pedal of a foot brake. Otherwise the car will begin "to creep". Never to press at the same time a pedal of an accelerator and a foot brake.

Having chosen as a control lever a step of D, you switched the transmission to economy mode of the movement. It is practically possible to go by a step of D always.

By soft pressing a pedal of an accelerator there is an early switching to transfers to economical fuel consumption. Manual switching of steps is necessary only in exceptional cases. To choose 3, 2 and 1 follows only when it is necessary to avoid switching to higher transfer or additional braking by means of the engine is required.

As soon as the road situation, again to choose D allows.

Automatic transmission

Provisions of a control lever automatic transmission P, R and N

Р = parking. Forward wheels are blocked. The translation only at the motionless car and the switched-on hand parking brake.

R = backing. To include only at the motionless car.

N = neutral situation or idling.

The control lever the automatic transmission can be brought out of situation P only at the included ignition and the pressed pedal of a foot brake.

The engine can be started only in the provision of P or N. At start in situation N to press a pedal of a foot brake or to turn on the hand parking brake.

During switching of steps not to press an accelerator pedal.

Step of D

D = constant situation for normal traffic conditions on transfers with 1 on 4.

After start of the engine and inclusion the D transmission always works in the mode of economic driving.

Step 3

3 = situation for traffic conditions on transfers 1, 2 and 3.

Step 2

2 = situation for the movement on the 1st and 2nd transfers, e.g., on the mountain serpentine; at the same time there is no switching to the 3rd and 4th transfers.

Step 1

1 = a loading step for the maximum brake effort, e.g., on abrupt descents; there is no switching higher than 1 transfer.

The driving modes with electronic control

The sports mode of driving, box switches transfers with higher frequencies of rotation of a shaft of the engine:
to press the button S (burns).

Economy mode, box switches transfers with lower frequencies of rotation of a shaft of the engine: to press the button S repeatedly.

The help at start-off from the place: to press the button.

XE1 engines X 18 XE, X 20XEV.X 25: the automatic machine of inclusion of neutral situation automatically transfers the transmission to situation N for reduction of fuel consumption, e.g., during stops on traffic lights. Automatic switching in neutral situation is carried out if:

 – the control lever the automatic transmission is in situation D, 3, 2 or 1 and
 – the pedal of a foot brake is pressed and
 – the car is not mobile and
 – there is no pressing an accelerator pedal.

As soon as the brake is released or the accelerator pedal is pressed, the car begins as usual the movement.

After start of the cold engine the program of management of working temperature quickly brings catalyst temperature to the value necessary for optimum reduction of content of toxic substances in the fulfilled gases, by a gear shifting delay (with higher frequencies of rotation of a shaft of the engine).

Adaptive programs are programs which automatically adapt gear shifting for traffic conditions, for example, when towing the trailer, at big loading and on rises.

The help at start-off from the place

At difficulties on slippery roads for start-off from the place to press the button, joins in P, R, N, D, 3 (an inclusion signaling device –). The car will start on the 3rd transfer.

The help at start-off from the place is switched off by repeated pressing the button.

Besides, switching off is possible in the way:

 – manual choice of steps 2 or 1;
 – switching off of ignition.

Kickdown – sharp pressing against the stop an accelerator pedal

Pressing of a pedal of an accelerator against the stop: at a speed below a certain value the box switches to lower transfer. It is applied to acceleration with use of full capacity of the engine.

Additional braking by the engine

For use of brake functions of the engine during descent it is timely to include 3, 2 or if that is demanded by a situation, 1.

Especially effectively brake action at a step 1. If it is included at too high speed 1, then the box will continue to work at the 2nd transfer until the point of transition to the 1st transfer due to, for example, braking is reached.

Stop

The included step at a stop with the working engine can be kept.

At a stop on slopes it is obligatory to involve the hand parking brake or to press a pedal of a foot brake. For prevention of an overheat of the transmission it is not necessary to hold on the included transfer the car on the place by increase in frequency of rotation of a shaft of the engine.

At long parking, for example, in jams or on the railway crossing to stop the engine.

Before an exit from the car at first to turn on the hand parking brake, then to switch on P and to take out the ignition key.

The ignition key is taken from the ignition lock only at installation of a control lever by the transmission in situation P.

"Rocking"

To shake the car which got stuck in sand, dirt, snow or in a ditch for its further advance, it is possible to switch at slightly pressed pedal of an accelerator a control lever between D and R. To hold the frequency of rotation of a shaft of the engine as low as possible and to avoid sharp pressing an accelerator pedal.

The way described above to apply only in exceptional cases.

Exact maneuvering

For exact maneuvering, for example, at installation of the car on the parking, arrival in a garage, etc., it is possible to use the way "crawling" by a holiday of a pedal of a foot brake.

Not to press at the same time a pedal of an accelerator and a foot brake at all.

Malfunction

The signaling device burns at the included ignition. If it does not go out after start of the engine or lights up during the movement, then takes place to be malfunction of the automatic transmission.

In case of equipment of the Multi car - lnfo - the display, on the display displays the message on malfunction of "Automatik Getriebe" ("The automatic transmission").

The transmission does not switch automatically any more.
It is possible to continue the movement. To switch transfers 1, 3 and 4 manually by means of a control lever by the transmission:

1 = 1st transfer,
2 = 3rd transfer,
3 = 4th transfer,
D = 4th transfer,
N = neutral (idling),
R = backing,
Р = parking.

For elimination of the reason to address in an authorized workshop of Opel. The algorithm of self-diagnostics integrated in system allows to find a cause of defect quickly.

Power supply violation

Power supply violation, for example, in case of the discharged rechargeable battery. At violation of power supply a control lever conclusion the automatic transmission from situation P is impossible.


Blocking removal:

1. To turn on the hand parking brake.
2. A cover on the acting part of a floor between front seats to lift and turn on 90 ° to the right.
3. To press by means of the screw-driver a doggie forward and to bring a control lever the automatic transmission out of situation P.
4. To assign a cover on the acting part of gender between front seats into place and to record.

Repeated transfer to situation P will lead to blocking of the lever again. The cause of infringement of power supply should be removed in an authorized workshop of Opel.
