3.1.8. Gear belt

GENERAL INFORMATION

Prevention

Replacement of a gear belt needs to be made on the cold engine.


Removal

Installation site of a thin steel core in the mechanism of a tension of a gear belt


PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove the top casing of a gear belt.
2. Install the piston of the first cylinder in the top dead point in a compression step.
3. Remove a pulley of a bent shaft.
4. Unscrew bolts and remove the lower casing of a gear belt.
5. Insert a thin steel core into an opening in the lever of the mechanism of a tension of a gear belt, turn the lever clockwise against the stop and record in this situation, inserting a core into the corresponding opening in a basic plate of the mechanism of a tension. Leave the tension mechanism in this situation before installation of a new belt. unscrew bolts of fastening of a wheel and remove a wheel.
6. Check correctness of combination of tags on pulleys of cranked and distributive shaft.
7. Weaken bolts of fastening of the water pump.
8. Turn the pump so that to reduce a tension of a gear belt.
9. Take off a gear belt from pulleys. For repeated installation of a gear belt note the direction of its movement.

Prevention

After removal of a belt it is strictly forbidden to turn pulleys of cranked and distributive shaft as there can be an impact of pistons about opened the valve what will lead to serious damage of the engine.


10. Check a gear belt for existence of uneven wear, stratification or pollution by oil. Pay special attention to a state at the basis of teeths of a belt. If on a belt oil traces are found, it is necessary to find a source of leak of oil and to eliminate it.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check and clear pulleys of the drive of a gear belt. Also check a state and freedom of rotation of a pulley of the mechanism of a tension. Check that adjusting tags on pulleys were combined with indexes on the engine.
2. Establish a gear belt on a pulley of a bent shaft and a pulley of the camshaft. At the same time the forward branch of a belt has to be hardly tense. Then establish a belt on a pulley of the pump of the cooling system and a pulley of the mechanism of a tension. Check that adjusting tags of pulleys are combined with indexes.
3. Take a steel core from the tension mechanism lever to release a tension mechanism spring.
4. Repeatedly check combination of adjusting tags of pulleys with indexes.
5. Pull a gear belt, rotating the water pump until the movement of the lever of the mechanism of a tension is observed. Move the pump until the lever of the mechanism of a tension (1) is not installed against an emphasis (2). Then tighten bolts of fastening of the water pump.
6. Temporarily establish a bolt of fastening of a pulley of a bent shaft and turn a bent shaft on two whole revolutions in the normal direction of rotation.
7. Check that adjusting tags on pulleys of distributive and cranked shaft are combined with indexes. Once again turn a bent shaft on two whole revolutions and check combination of tags and position of the lever of the mechanism of a tension of a gear belt.
8. If the index of the lever of the mechanism of a tension is not combined with an emphasis, repeat the procedure of a tension of a gear belt.
9. Establish casings of a gear belt and a pulley of a bent shaft.
